Worship.
How does the Church Worship?
The Church worships the only God joyfully (Psalm 100:1), in Spirit (Phil 3:3) and in truth (John 4:23), in gratitude (Psalm 100:4) for what He has done through Jesus Christ our Lord. Worship declares the infinite worth of God and can be done in song, in prayer, and in any obedient submission to God’s Word (Romans 12:1-2).
Are Baptism & The Lord’s Supper acts of Worship?
Jesus instituted The Lord’s Supper primarily in order for us to remember Him (Luke 22:19) and the way in which He fulfilled the Passover. It is a perpetual declaration of His faithful love and sacrifice for our sins (1 Cor 11:26).
Baptism is done in obedience to Jesus (Matthew 28:19). It is a declaration of His death & resurrection and the way that He washes us of sin, and raises us to eternal life (Romans 6:4).
Both are acts of obedience, submission, faith and the declaration of God’s goodness and power, and are therefore acts of Worship.
What can Worship do?
Worship glorifies God, and fulfils the purpose for which He created us (Isaiah 43:7). We become what we worship (Psalm 115:8), and God has chosen us to become like Jesus (Romans 8:29). Worshipping God changes worshippers, making them more like Jesus (Romans 12:1-2).
