Elijah Obeys

Bold Prophet - Elijah
verses a BAD KING AHAB & JEZEBEL

After King Solomon’s reign, the nation of Israel was split into two kingdoms: Israel and Judah.
Both nations experienced good and bad leaders, but the worst king of Israel was Ahab.
His wife, Jezebel, was also evil and played a big part in Ahab’s poor decision-making during his 22-year reign.

1 KINGS 16:29-33
(BAD KING AHAB)

THE LORD SPEAKS TO HIS PROPHET - ELIJAH (1 Kings 17:2-7)

READ
1 Kings 16:29-33
(Abah displeases the Lord)
1 Kings 17:1-7
(The Lord speaks to Elijah - ravens)

1 Kings 17
(Elijah and the widow)

1 Kings 18:1-4 (18)
(The Lord speaks to Elijah - rain)

1 Kings 19:1-2 (9-21)
(Elijah encounters the Lord)

3 KINGS
King Ahab + King Ben Hadad + King Jehoshaphat

1 Kings 21:20-26
(The Vineyard & the Lord’s Judgement on Ahab)
The Lord told Elijah to find Ahab in Naboth’s Vineyard
….dogs will also lick your blood
But then Ahab is remorseful and the Lord shows him mercy!

1 Kings 22:8
(Ahab & Jehosphat & Micaiah)

Conclusion:
Ahab and Jezebel were wicked and God dealt with their evil ways.
We know that even when bad leaders are in charge, we can trust God for His provision, protection, and judgment.
Only by trusting in Jesus as our Savior will we be able to stand up for what is really right.

“Go!

By obeying the Lord most of the new Testament was written!

10 Lepers

10 Healed only 1 Gives Thanks

Luke 17:11-18

On the way to Jerusalem,
Jesus healed 10 people who were suffering by leprosy.
Among those ten people, only one Samaritan came back to Jesus and praised God.
Jesus asked this Samaritan "Weren't there ten people cleansed? Where are the nine?".
The other nine was satisfied by just the healing on them, but only this Samaritan recognised real salvation by Jesus. Jesus said to him. "Arise and go, your faith healed you."

10 HEALED PHYSICALLY

9 are NOT SAVED

Lazarus

WAITING FOR A BIG MIRACLE

Jesus waits after hearing his friend is sick
He could have healed his sick friend
But the BIGGER MIRACLE is that He raises His friend from death.

JOHN 11

KEY VERSES

11:4
When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”

11:15
and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”

11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.
The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.
Do you believe this?”

11:35
 Jesus wept.

11:40
Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

11:42
I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here,
that they may believe that you sent me.”

11:45
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary,
and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him.

First Miracle

Jesus FIRST miracle
involves WATER WINE WEDDING

"What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory;
and his disciples believed in him." John 2:11 NIV

Jesus' first miracle is rich with symbolism; He turns ceremonial water used for washing into something better - wine, wine that was to be used to celebrate a wedding. Later in His ministry, during the "Last Supper" Jesus offers a cup of wine to His disciples and states,"This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many." The Jewish people temporarily purified themselves using the ceremonial water, but the blood of Jesus is far stronger and washes away our sin forever. This is indeed something to celebrate.

Today we are partaking in the LORD’s SUPPER

LUKE 22:19-20
19
And he took bread,
gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying,
“This is my body given for you;
do this in remembrance of me.”

20 In the same way,
after the supper he took the cup, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
which is poured out for you.

Miracle - Rise up and walk

OUR HEARTS MATTER

MARK 2:1-12 / LUKE 5

FRIENDS - FURY - FORGIVENESS - FULLY HEALED

Jesus was preaching the WORD in CAPERANUM

Jesus heals a paralysed man in CAPERANUM
who is lowered into the house through the roof by 4 friends!

Jesus also angered the spiritual leaders when He told the paralysed man
SON, YOUR SINS WERE FORGIVEN”
(THEY DID NOT RECOGNISE JESUS AS THE MESSIAH)

Proving that Jesus puts the condition of our HEARTS FIRST
Our sins come from our HEART….

But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.
MATTHEW 15:18

Then He healed the man physically

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM TODAY’S LESSON

The condition of our heart is more important to Jesus than our health.
By saying that his sins are forgiven - meant that the man was now right with the Lord.
As it is sin in our hearts that seperate us from God.

Jesus sees our faith.
Jesus can read our thoughts.
Jesus heals.
Jesus forgives our sins.
Jesus is God.

Many people unfortunately think the Bible is just another long boring book. But of course the Bible is not just another book, it was given to man from God to reveal Jesus Christ as our savior.
From Genesis, the very first book, to Revelation, the last book, the purpose of the Bible is Jesus. In John 5:39 Jesus himself says, "These are the Scriptures that testify about me."

1 On the day of Pentecost[a] all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages,[b] as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

Finish the Race

Finish the Race

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Promised Helper

At the LAST SUPPER
Jesus promised to send a helper

READ JOHN 14:15-17

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

The Holy Spirit is our helper, and He testifies about Jesus, helps us live an obedient life, gives us peace, teaches us how to love like Jesus, and guides us in the truth. And because the Holy Spirit lives inside believers, we should share with unbelievers that they too can experience the joy and peace of the Holy Spirit by trusting in Jesus.

Here at Family Church
We believe (1) that the Holy Spirit is the Lord, the giver of life, who formed the world and who speaks in the Holy Scriptures; (2) that God anointed Jesus Christ with the Spirit for His ministry and that the Spirit was given to the Church at Pentecost to indwell, lead, empower and unite believers, gifting each of them for various works of service; (3) that the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ, gives understanding of the Word, convicts people of their sin, unites believers to Jesus, and forms the character of Christ within them; and (4) that the Spirit pours the love of God into our hearts, enables prayer and witness, and seals the believer for the day of the redemption of their bodies.

Daniel Chapter 5

A new King dishonours God

TODAY’S LESSON FROM DANIEL chapter 5
BE HUMBLE

MEMORY VERSE
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." James 4:10 NIV

Sometime after Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego survived the fiery furnace, King Nebuchadnezzar had a disturbing vision. Daniel interpreted the vision for the king, and told him that he would live like a wild animal for many years unless or until he gave up his sinful life by acknowledging God as Lord of all.

Just as Daniel said, the vision came true and King Nebuchadnezzar lived as a wild animal until he finally changed his ways. In fact, he even said, "Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble." (Dan. 4:37)

But sometime afterwards, his son, Belshazzar became king. King Belshazzar did not honor God, nor humble himself. Instead, he did his best to fight against the Lord. Then, a message came to him in a strange way. Let's read to find out what that message said.

Read Daniel 5:17-31
Read the passage to the children as they follow along in their own Bible.
(In this passage, enchanters, astrologers and diviners were magicians and people who told the future using tricks and stars.)

Then Daniel answered the king, “You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.

18 “Your Majesty, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness and glory and splendor. 19 Because of the high position he gave him, all the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. 20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. 21 He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.

22 “But you, Belshazzar, his son,[d] have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. 23 Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. 24 Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription.

25 “This is the inscription that was written:

mene, mene, tekel, parsin

26 “Here is what these words mean:

Mene[e]: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.

27 Tekel[f]: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.

28 Peres[g]: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”

29 Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.

30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians,[h] was slain, 31 and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.[i]
