Fountain of Youth.
And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 5:9-10 ESV
It is interesting looking at the many different myths and legends around the idea of immortality. Scripture tells us that God has placed eternity in our hearts but not the means to comprehend the full extent of God’s work in it (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Elixirs, sacred fruit and fountains are some of the way in which people have imagined mystical routes to eternal life, but the idea is everywhere throughout history and across every culture. Human beings have constantly occupied their minds with trying to overcome death.
Our modern culture may not believe in fountains and sacred fruit, but we spend billions in laboratories pursuing ways to delay and ultimately evade death. We seem unable to accept it’s finality.
The recent pandemic has brought death into clearer focus for many of us, and consequently we’ve been brought to reevaluate the plans and purpose of our limited existence, and the unfathomable extents of God’s promise of eternity. While this can make us anxious, God has already provided the solution, to both life and death. His Name is Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God. It is through His suffering that Jesus has earned our salvation. We don’t need to waste our lives pursuing fables, we just need to accept that there is One Holy God, and that we are not God. We are completely dependent on God for every moment of our existence because we are literally dying from sin. Jesus Christ has died and suffered in our place so that by His loving grace, we can receive His prefect standing with God by faith, and live for His purpose, eternally.

Amazing grace How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost But now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
'Twas grace that taught My heart to fear
And grace my Fears relieved
How precious did That grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers Toils and snares
We have already come
'Twas grace hath brought Us safe thus far
And grace will lead us home
When we've been there Ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We'll have no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun.
Prayer
Dear loving Eternal and un-created Father, We love You Lord and Thank You for placing eternity in our hearts. We know that we were always meant to have an eternal unbroken relationship with You. We confess that we have sinned against You Oh God, and that we deserve the eternal separation that results from our rebellion against You. We trust that our Lord Jesus Christ has paid the full price for our sin, and that He has successfully opened eternity by His faithful obedience to all who trust in Him. Thank You that He proved this through His resurrection from the dead. Please forgive us our sin Lord and fill our hearts today with the joy of Your salvation, In Jesus Name. Amen.
Service
Every human heart longs for eternity, but so few have found it in Jesus Christ our Lord. Pray for the Lord to provide opportunities for us to share the only true Fountain of Eternal Youth with those who are still looking for Him. Be aware of conversations this week that touch on death and immortality and then ask the Lord Jesus to grant you the love, the words and the wisdom, to share His Amazing Grace.
