Baptism Sunday

Baptism is an act of Worship in obedience to the commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ. It declares what He has done for us in His life, death and Resurrection. The Scripture repeatedly tells us to repent and believe the Gospel, assuring us that through faith in Christ we are saved by God’s grace. Baptism not only declares this but visually reminds us of the power of Jesus Christ over sin and death.

Scripture

Matthew 28:16-20 ESV Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Bible Study Questions

Stray and sinful without a Shepherd

Do you believe that God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. That we all like sheep have gone astray and that God has laid on Jesus Christ the iniquities of us all, and that we therefore, having been justified by faith in His blood, shall be saved by Him from the wrath of God. (Romans 5:8‭-‬9, Isaiah 53:5-6)

The Mighty and Good News

Do you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that He died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas (Peter) and then to the twelve. (Romans 10:9, 1 Corinthians 15:3-6)

The Hope of Resurrection

Do you believe that the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, and that He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you? (Romans 8:11)

Called by Grace to Work for God’s Glory

Do you believe that it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And that this is not your own doing; but is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10)

Living in the power of Christ Jesus

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

Invited to the Table

1 Corinthians 11:23-29 ESV For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

Go in Blessed Freedom

2 Peter 1:2-4 ESV May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
