The strength of weakness

Whether wallow on how we fall short of the impossible standards we believe we should be able to maintain, or revel in how we rise above others through our own strength, pride hurts. It drains. It hurts others and breaks relationships. There is an alternative, a better way, the only way. When we embrace our weakness and rely on God’s strength and then labour in the freedom of trusting that God will not fail, extraordinary things happen. This is true for the Church, which is God’s chosen instrument to display His awesome power, wisdom and grace, not ours.

Scripture

Ephesians 3:7-10 ESV Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was given me by the working of his power. 8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, 10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.

Appointed, Equipped and Empowered for God’s Glory

God’s power is evident from the fact that He created all things. Paul was chosen and empowered to bring light to a mystery that nobody had known before except God. Why did God reveal this mystery?

For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Committed by God’s Power

Does embracing our own weakness mean that we sit around waiting for God to do the work, or do we need to commit ourselves to serving Him with all our hearts?

1 Corinthians 15:9-10 ESV For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

Jesus Christ’s ultimate Example

How did Jesus use perceived weakness to achieve the greatest and most powerful victory in all history?

Luke 23:35 ESV And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”

Luke 4:3-4 ESV The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” 4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’”
