If God permits,we will do.
And this we will do if God permits. - Hebrews 6:3 ESV
Ever wanted anything so badly that you found it dominating all your thoughts and motivating all your actions? Intense passion is a common ingredient everywhere that we find outstanding achievement. It’s an ingredient that should be found in the Church too, but must always be anchored in humility or it will become destructive. If humility is the difference between commitment and unhealthy obsession, then what is that humility?
Today’s verse is a great example. The author of Hebrews is passionate about helping the Jewish Christians withstand persecution and resist turning back from Christ to their old ways. The letter of Hebrews is a brilliant and passionate appeal rooted in the Scripture of the Old Testament and gleaming with the grace of the New Covenant. Yet, with all this passion, comes a seasoned submission to God’s will. What the author plans to share with the Church is shaped by the desire to follow God’s prompting and to be constrained by His consent.
The phrase “we will” is a humble admission of dependency on God, and others, rather than self. “We will do” shows determination but also the faith that God will achieve all His purposes through us working together. “If God permits” places everything in His hands and surrenders expectations to His will. The remaining seven chapters testify to the authors continuing commitment.
All the chaos and confusion of 2020 and whatever follows it, cannot shake the foundation of this simple statement “This we will do, If God permits”.
Prayer
Dear Loving Almighty God, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come and Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Thank You that You always know best, and are always in control, working all things together for Your own glorious plan. Please forgive us when we lose confidence in Your perfect ways and try to go our own way. Please keep us close to You, waiting for Your call and trusting Your directions. Please fill us with the power and passion to keep pursuing Your plan for our lives, for Your Name’s sake. In Jesus Name. Amen.

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
