The Tabernacle: Introduction
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth”. - John 1:14 ESV
When John tells us that God became flesh, in the person of Jesus Christ the Messiah, he uses a particular Greek word to say that He “dwelt” among us. This word means to pitch a tent, or a tabernacle. It could be read “and the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us”.
This week as we draw ever closer to remembering the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we’re going to dig deep into the meaning of this verse, starting all the way back in the book of Exodus. During the the long journey of God’s people out of the slavery of Egypt, God commanded Moses to construct a tent, or tabernacle. It was in this tent that God drew near to the people, a place of meeting.
God provided strict instructions of how and where the people were to meet with, and worship Him. As we read about the tabernacle, we’ll see that it’s an amazing prophetic picture of Jesus Christ. This Easter, join us in daily devotions as we draw near to God to meet with Him and worship Him through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear Father God Almighty,
Thank You that You are the only living God. The God who created Heaven and Earth and the God that desires to dwell with us. Thank You that You’ve shown love to us in a way that nobody would have imagined, You became flesh, You took human form to be with us and to live and die to secure our freedom and make it possible for us to be with You.
Father God please forgive our sins as we confess them to You. You’ve promised that if we turn away from our sins and believe that Jesus died and rose to pay the price for our sins and secure our eternal life with You, that You will faithfully forgive us.
Please guide us in this study throughout this week, and lead us toward You. Draw us near Father, in Your great mercy, because this is what You show us is Your desire. Thank You for Your Holy Word, the Scriptures. Please direct us by the power of Your Holy Spirit to understand and apply Your Word to us. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Better is One Day
How lovely is your dwelling place Oh, Lord Almighty
For my soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied Within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings
Better is one day in Your courts, Better is one day in Your house,
Better is one day in Your courts Than thousands elsewhere
One thing I ask and I would seek To see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells
One thing I ask and I would seek To see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells
My heart and flesh cry out For You, the living God Your Spirit's water to my soul
I've tasted and I've seen Come once again to me I will draw near to You I will draw near to You
The COVID-19 lock-down has turned our lives upside down. We have to find new ways of doing exercise, education, work and so many aspects of our daily lives. To start this week, let’s think of new ways of serving the Lord Jesus Christ out of gratitude for what He’s done for us. How can we serve our Lord God, His Church and each other?
